The torn and burnt look ( part 2 ) - Photoshop

 

I used the color red for the forground color in this example. Draw a rectangle on your new layer ( NOT the background ), and fill it with the color you had chosen using the paint bucket tool.

You shoud have something like this now.

Next, using the rectangular marquee tool, select the area that you wish to apply the "torn look" too. You will have something that looks like this now.

Important: Before you continue, be SURE that your secondary color in the color picker matches your background ( in my case, white ).

OK now from the Filter menu up top, select filter, Brush Strokes, and Spatter. Use values of 10 and 5 like I did in this picture:

Filter->Brush Strokes->Spatter

Click OK. Now you will have something that looks like this:
