Teoma was founded in 2000 in Piscataway, New Jersey
by a team of scientists from Rutgers University. Teoma means "expert"
in Gaelic. Ask Jeeves,
Inc. acquired Teoma in September 2001. Teoma offically went
'live' on April 1st, 2002 at 8pm EST.
Little is known about Teoma at this time, other
than what I have for information on the right hand menu. Their update
schedule is unknown, as is their spidering schedule.
The folks at Teoma claim to be the 'next generation'
in search technology. Indeed their search functions are pretty interesting,
as during your search, you are given options to narrow down your
search. The method Teoma uses to classify sites is called Subject-Specific
Popularity.
It appears at this time Teoma will use your title
and META description tags to help your ranking, and also it will
index ALT text in images.
